Is it Worth a Watch?

I had high hopes for this movie, it has a strong cast, the book was fantastic, and it had the potential to turn into a huge franchise. It’s not the worst movie ever and will likely be appealing to kids but it fails to connect with the older audience which is why I don’t think we’ll see a second.

The CGI was awful, the magic didn’t resonate, and the story was kind of boring. I could see this movie being ok if the kids run out of content and you need something to put on.

Such a great feel good movie, Shia Labeouf put in a incredible performance, but, the storyline had some unnecessary parts and the end of the movie left something to be desired, it all ended quickly.

Get your Popcorn ready because I absolutely love Dogs, and when I saw the trailer for this I quickly called me Dog over so we could watch it together. Harrison Ford is a absolute legend and I can honestly say that there are few Harrison Ford movies that I don’t like.

I had a couple issues with this movie, it all felt very rushed and for some reason the story splits between two main characters, which kind of threw me off. I also felt like they could of had a little better continuity. There were 4-5 different stories that didn’t really intertwine.

The movie was enjoyable, and Ford was great, but the biggest flaw in this movie was the fact that all the dogs in every scene are CGI. No real dogs in any of the scenes, I understanding doing this if the Dogs have lines and a dialogue but they don’t, so it just seemed odd. The CGI is probably why the budget for this movie was $100M plus – if they would of used real Dogs, it may have reduced the budget and made it much more enjoyable.

This is kind of a fun family movie, although, there is some seriously heavy parts. I enjoyed watching it with my dog but he didn’t enjoy it as much because the Dogs were all CGI in the movie.

Get your Popcorn ready we’ve got a powerful cast of actors being directed by the legendary Guy Ritchie! Everyone I know was excited for this one. I like a good British gangster movie and it’s been a while since I’ve seen one. I didn’t love how the story was told in the beginning, I found it a little confusing and needless, but as the movie went on the strong performances of the characters made me forget about how the story was being told.

I give this a Nerdy Popcorn review a VERY respectable 7.2/10 – This is a easy movie to watch, I feel like you can do this one on date night, with the guys, or even as a family (Without kids under 14). Enjoyable and well acted. Well Done Sir.

Get your Popcorn ready, Underwater movie review up next, everyone who’s seen the trailer want’s to know if it’s as good as the trailer made it seem. Short Answer is No. Honestly I had my hopes up for this movie, I typically love sci-fi style movies, but this one just missed the mark. I love the story idea but everything seems rushed. This movie had potential but the screenplay was terrible, not really worth watching. There wasn’t enough time in the movie to connect with anyone in the movie. There were some cool scenes but they were just meh.

I give this a Nerdy Popcorn review 3.3/10. I can’t figure out one scenario in which this movie would be fun to watch.

Oscar Alert: Will Sam Mendes win Best Director for 1917?

Sam Mendes is at the top of the list for the Oscar for best director, if he wins it’ll best his second, he won at the 72nd Academy Awards for his first major motion picture, American Beauty. Since then he has Directed numerous big budget movies, none of the were met with the same critical acclaim, however, 1917 has. 21 years after his first win Mendes, who still shoot movies on film instead of digital, is taking us on the journey of a pair of British servicemen tasked with delivering a message in the middle of battle.

The cinematography is beautiful, the flow of the camera as it follows the character is flawless , even if you don’t like war movies you’ll be mesmerized by the camera work. The movie has a beautiful amount of tension, which is a result of the music, done by Thomas Newman, whose resume also includes American Beauty. What I absolutely love about this movie is that you could never guess what happens next, Mendes does a fantastic job capturing the uncertainty of war, which gives you a sense of dread as you watch the story unfold.

The two lead actors are virtually unknown, but Mendes accounts for this by surrounding them with Hollywood royalty, within the first 15 minutes you’ll see appearances by Colin Firth and Andrea Scott, brief but strong performances by both. 1917 is a perfect example of what can be achieved when you have some of the best in the world behind the scenes, the acting was fabulous, but what makes this story special is the collaboration between director/writer, cinematography, music, and photography.

This movie will win both Best Picture and Best Director. Entertainment value is through the roof, minimal slow and drawn out parts, and never a dull moment. Anyone who appreciates cinema should see this movie, any casual movie lovers should also see this movie, as a matter of fact everyone should see this movie.

Will Michael Bay’s 6 Underground Blow Up on Netflix?

Netflix takes a stab at big budget mega action movies by teaming up director Michael Bay with everyone’s favourite actor, Ryan Reynolds, in the new 6 Underground. Anyone who follows Reynolds on social media will have seen numerous promo posts for this movie which usually included a car chase or explosion. The trailers promised a return to the golden days – think big explosions with even bigger budgets. Bay is known for his love of explosions, but within the first 30 minutes of this movie I got the sense that he may be trying to hard on this one.

Movie goers are all in for fun, action packed movies but we need them to make sense with a logical flow to the story. While watching 6 Underground it seemed like Bay just mapped out a bunch of explosions and then made a movie around them. It’s worth a watch but just be aware that there is a lack of substance to it. The emotional moments feels empty and the explosions seemed ill timed.

Overall, it’s a relatively fun movie to watch but the lack of plot and sloppy editing really take away from the movie.

Nerdy Reviews: “A Quiet Place” Don’t Eat Popcorn, Don’t Sip your Drink, Better Yet Don’t Move, Just Watch.

The hype surrounding “A Quiet Place” has been tremendous, the marketing machine behind this movie certainly accomplished it’s task of generating buzz. The trailers were mysterious and compelling, and I immediately marked this down as I movie I needed to see.

I have never been much of a scary movie in theater’s kind of guy but based on the reviews, I bit my lip, and decided to buy my ticket.

The movie establishes the importance of silence very early on and it assures you that, even without the spoken word, you will bond with the character’s emotionally.

As the story move’s forward it begins to delve into the day to day life in this new world. It seems the whole point of this portion of the movie is to reaffirm the importance of silence, ultimately preparing the viewers for what’s coming next. The only way to properly communicate this portion of the movie is – the deafening silence will leave you clenching your armrest in anticipation for what’s next.

There is one climactic moment that puts into motion the events that will forever change the Abbot’s family lives. Once this happens the whole movie takes a turn and it becomes a incredibly stressful, suspenseful, and thrilling roller coaster of emotions.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying this movie is the scariest movie I’ve ever seen but it is by far the most stressful, John Krasinski did a excellent job of leaving you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. I felt physically drained after this movie.

This movie tops my list as one of the best thrillers I’ve ever seen, the cinematography, the dialogue (Or lack their of), and just about every aspect of the film meshed together beautifully to make a masterpiece of modern thriller cinema.

The acting was incredible, John and Emily were perfect together and the Kids, Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds showed the emotionally  range of seasoned Hollywood Veterans.

Well done John and cast, Well done.

3. The Greatest Showman – It was alright, the soundtrack was great, the movie was just ok, if you’re into musicals you may enjoy more than I did.
4. Molly’s Game – It was just ok, I thought it was going to be incredible, but it wasn’t if it wasn’t based on a true story it would be awful.
5. The Foreigner – Jackie Chan action/thriller, can’t go wrong if you like Jackie, the story was kind of good too, definitely an enjoyable movie for action lovers.
6. Pitch Perfect 3 – Not as good as the first one, or the second one, I think they should have stopped after the first one but that’s just me.
7. I, Tonya – Great movie, the acting was amazing, and the story was crazy, for the first time since reading about this I felt bad for Tonya.
8. Thor: Ragnarok – Marvel does it again with another action-packed superhero movie, my only beef is that Marvel keeps making comedy a big part of their superhero movies, still incredible though.
9. Coco – Disney/Pixar does it again, love this movie, the songs are amazing and the visualize are on point. if you like animated movies, you’ll love this.
10. Downsizing – Weird movie, very very frustrating, and I swear I wanted to smack Matt Damon’s character a few times but it was an interesting take on the future, worth watching once but don’t expect much.

Is Netflix’s new Sci-Fi thriller “The Titan” worth watching?

Feature length debut for German born director Lennart Ruff was an ambitious venture into the Sci-fi realm, the story, cast, and direction had potential but ultimately fell flat. Sam Worthington’s performance was well done and helped redeem the failed storyline.

I really enjoyed the beginning of this movie and thought it could of been really well done, however, as time went on, I realized that the movie wasn’t progressing fast enough, which ultimately led to an empty and lackluster ending.

Immensely disappointed that this movie wasn’t better than it was but in the end I feel like this was a failed script/story and not necessarily the directors fault, I’m not sure how Netflix’s exec’s didn’t foresee that people would be disappointed with the ending and ultimately the movie but Netflix’s recent push (Annihilation) into the realm of Sci-fi has shown promise and Sci-Fi fans should be excited to see what’s next.
